9.5.1      VTS (Validation Task Service)

The VTS is a Windows process that runs constantly in the background in TrialMaster. The job of the VTS is to catch validations that happen “behind the scenes” and make sure they are processed so users can address them later.

When users enter data that causes another field on the same form to change or become invalid, they see the change happen. In the case of invalid data, a  Warning icon displays and users can take corrective action immediately. However, in some cases users may enter or change data that affects an item on another form. In those cases, users are not immediately alerted of any warning, and cannot visually confirm a value changed based on data they entered.

The VTS will mark a form with invalid data as “Incomplete” and add it to the Discrepancies task list). The VTS may also make other changes, such as to recalculate a derived field on a dependent form. In addition to these “cross-form” validations, other scenarios handled by the VTS include: validations triggered by Mid-Study Changes, data imports, patient moves, and changes to lab ranges.

Types of Validations Processed by the VTS

The VTS processes the following validation (or edit check) actions. These actions occur when certain conditions are met. Some of these edit checks may be performed on multiple objects (items, groups, forms, visits, patients, sites, and trials). Refer to Manage Validation Actions for more information about each edit action.
